A Special Message From
Dottie Manning

It is amazing what can come out of a friendship, for that is exactly how the Walk to Cure Cancer began nine  years ago, a friendship between Dan Manning Sr. of Marlborough, Massachusetts and Bob Haynes, President of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO

My son, Danny Manning Jr., died in October 1994 just short of his 21st birthday from leukemia. But, as life would have it, two years after my son died, my husband, Dan Sr., died at the age of 47 from esophageal cancer.

It was at this time that Bob Haynes came to me and proposed the Walk to Cure Cancer. Bob felt no family should ever have to endure what the Manning family did and the AFL-CIO of Massachusetts and their families could help. Our friendship and UMass Medical School have brought us together in a new way, to find a cure for cancer.

My life, like so many of yours, has been seriously affected by cancer. I don't want what happened to my family to happen to your family. Won't you please join me and together we will make a difference in your life and mine.

With a sincere heart and walking feet, Join us this year for our 11th Anniversary Sunday September 13th at Noon.
